a) Find the solution set for each of the following equations in \( \mathbb{R} \):
4. \( 3x^2 - 1 = -13 \)
∵ \( 3x^2 - 1 = -13 \)
∴ \( 3x^2 = -13 + 1 = -12 \)
∴ \( x^2 = -12 ÷ 3 = -4 \)
∴ \( x = \pm \sqrt{-4} \notin \mathbb{R} \)
∴ The solution set = \( \emptyset \)
5. \( 5x^3 - 1 = 4x^3 + 8 \)
∵ \( 5x^3 - 1 = 4x^3 + 8 \)
∴ \( 5x^3 - 4x^3 = 8 + 1 \)
∴ \( x^3 = 9 \)
∴ \( x = \sqrt[3]{9} \)
∴ The solution set = \( \{\sqrt[3]{9}\} \)
